About
The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) offers many opportunities to enjoy art, music, theatre, and dance. There are classes and workshops for all ages, art exhibits in our gallery, community theatre performances, art education programs, and special events held throughout the year that bring our cultural community together. The facility offers an art gallery, performance room, children’s gallery, conference room, and two art studios.
Mission
The JDCAC is dedicated to providing quality cultural arts programs for the citizens of Auburn. We achieve this by:
- Establishing and organizing quality programs that address the diverse cultural interests of Auburn citizens.
- Managing a well-maintained facility.
- Exceeding the expectations of citizens, advisory groups, local officials, and the media through a commitment to effective and efficient delivery of services and a positive approach to customer service.
- Continuing to offer innovative and unique programs.
In addition to supporting local artists and performers, the JDCAC has developed a strong culture of collaboration, partnering with the Auburn Arts Association, Auburn Area Community Theatre, Auburn Community Orchestra, Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, and other organizations by providing fundraising assistance, studio and meeting space, technical support, and publicity.
The Art Gallery is coordinated by the Auburn Arts Association (AAA). The AAA, founded in 1982, is a non-profit, volunteer, community-based organization. Their primary objectives are to promote arts education, encourage and support local artists and art initiatives, and to foster community interest and participation. The AAA works hand-in-hand with the JDCAC to provide classes and summer camps in the visual arts, to present exhibitions in the Art Gallery, and to sponsor numerous projects and events that benefit and enhance our community’s cultural life.
The JDCAC is also home to the Auburn Area Community Theatre (AACT). In partnership with the JDCAC, AACT is a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for education and participation in the theatre community. AACT presents quality, entertaining and thought-provoking theatre experiences to our cultural community. In addition to theatrical performances, AACT provides a number of workshops and summer camps to area residents.
